TONY WATKINS

Tony Watkins serves as Director of Athletics and Head 8th Grade Girls’ basketball coach at HIES. Coach Watkins is in his 11th season as part of the Lady Bears basketball program. He served as Head Varsity Coach from 2009-2016. During that time, the Lady Bears won four region championships, reached the GHSA Finals three times and won the AA State Championship in 2016. Previously the Executive Director at Northside Youth Organization (NYO), Tony returned to HIES in 2018 and remains a champion for student athletes. He is married to Alicia Watkins, who teaches 5th grade at HIES.

WHITNEY AMOS

Coach Amos is in her second year working with the Girls Middle School Basketball program and her third year at the school as the Annual Fund Manager working in the HIES Development Office. Prior to coaching at HIES, Whitney played basketball at Vestavia Hills in Birmingham, AL where in her senior year her team won the region title and set the school record for wins. She earned a B.S in Psychology and A.B.J. in Public Relations from the University of Georgia and is excited to be a part of the golden bear community!

SHEKINA ALEXANDER

In her first year at HIES, Shekinah is currently a Lead Preschool 2 teacher in Midtown.. A graduate of Ohio Christian University and Georgia Perimeter College, she obtained her Associates in Early childhood Education and Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is also in the Masters program at Georgia State University for Health and Physical Education. Shekinah played basketball at both colleges and has a passion for teaching the game and competing. Locally, she coaches with the Georgia Pistols AAU club.

ANDREW SEGAL

In his first year at HIES, Coach Segal is the assistant middle school softball coach and 7th grade girls assistant basketball coach. He grew up playing all sports in the community both as an adolescent and adult often serving in a coaching and strategy capacity among his peers. A full-time corporate HVAC control systems contractor, Coach Segal has focused his community volunteer efforts as an NYO fast-pitch girls' softball and boys' basketball coach for the past 7 years. He has grown with the NYO softball program serving to expand both the regular season play rosters as well as the summer league all-star competitive edge against the Metro-Atlanta area parks - a fun and loyal circuit in the community. He is proud to have developed many of the girls who now play high school softball around Atlanta and is honored to be back in the game.
