LADY BEARS FINISH RUNNER-UP
The 4th time was not the charm. The Lady Bears, which had defeated Wesleyan by 14, 20 and 7 were not able to duplicate that success in the championship. HI girls, who were riding a 27 game win streak, came out with some fire leading 14-11 after the 1st quarter. Things went downhill from there on out. Wesleyan Sr. Sutton West knocked down a jumper at the buzzer to send the Wolves into the half with a 27-22 lead. The Wolves saw their lead balloon out to 13 by the end of the 3rd. Holy Innocents' made a late charge, getting as close as 10 points early in the 4th but were not able to get any closer. Wesleyan came away with the 61-44 win in the 4th consecutive matchup of the two power programs in the 1A Private Championship. The Bears were led by Kaila Hubbard and Jada Farrell's 18 and 13 pts respectively. The five Holy Innocents' seniors did not finish the way they would have liked, but they accomplished a lot in their final year. Holy Innocents' was nationally ranked by every major ranking provider during the season (#11 USA Today, #21 ESPN, #21 MaxPreps Excellent 25) and also won the region championship. The Bears ended the season with a 29-2 record.
